Mexican Grey Wolf

#006 for 2020

The Mexican Grey Wolf, also known as El Lobo, was until the turn of the century a native of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts from central Mexico to western Texas, southern New Mexico and central Arizona. But bunting, trapping, poisoning, and digging pups from dens for disposal have led to them being considered one of the most endangered of all wolf subspecies.

As a result there are now less than 500 left in both captivity and in the wild. Though conservation efforts are ongoing.
