Revisiting this majestic Chilean bird once again.
The Andean Condor, a resident of the Andes. It is the largest flying bird in the world by combined measurement of weight & wingspan. Its wingspan can each up to 3.3m (10ft 10in). It is one of the longest lived birds with lifespans of up to 70 years.
The condor is a vulture & therefore a scavenger that feeds on carrion & has a particular taste for cattle & deer. It is the national emblem of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador & Peru, and is listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss & poisoning from poisoned carcasses killed by hunters.

Got an idea for another drawing? Want to buy this piece or commission a particular illustration? I’m always open to new ideas.
Let me know, I usually like to stick to endangered species but I have been known to make exceptions on occasion. 😉
If you like this illustration, take a look at the timelapse video:
Condor in Flight
I had actually illustrated a Condor in flight back in September last year (2020) and shared it on Instagram, but unfortunately I didn’t get around to posting it up here on the website, so I take a look. This particular specimen is a female, as it lacks the comb or caruncle on its beak and crown.
